Blue Screen of Death (BSOD)

How to Fix Your System When It Crashes

If you're seeing a blue screen with a message that your system has run into an error, don't panic. This issue, often referred to as the Blue Screen of Death (BSOD), indicates that your computer has encountered a problem it can't resolve on its own. Here's a step-by-step guide to troubleshoot and fix this issue:

1. Restart Your Computer

Sometimes, a simple restart can resolve the issue. Press and hold the power button to turn off your computer, wait a few seconds, and then turn it back

2. Check for Software Updates

Ensure your operating system and all software are up to date. Outdated software can cause compatibility issues leading to a BSOD.

  • Windows: Go to Settings > Update & Security > Windows Update and click on Check for updates.

  • Mac: Go to System Preferences > Software Update.

3. Update Your Drivers

Faulty or outdated drivers can cause system crashes. Make sure all your drivers are up to date.

  • Windows: Right-click on the Start button, select Device Manager, right-click on any device with a yellow exclamation mark, and choose Update driver.

  • Mac: Drivers are updated automatically with macOS updates.

4. Run a System Scan

Use built-in tools to check for system file corruption or malware.

  • Windows: Open Command Prompt as an administrator and run sfc /scannow to scan and repair system files.

  • Mac: Use Disk Utility to repair your disk by running First Aid.

5. Check for Hardware Issues

Faulty hardware can also cause a BSOD. Run hardware diagnostics to identify any issues.

  • Windows: Use tools like Windows Memory Diagnostic or third-party hardware diagnostic tools.

  • Mac: Restart your Mac and hold down the D key to start Apple Diagnostics.

6. Restore Your System

If the problem started after a recent change, try restoring your system to an earlier point.

  • Windows: Go to Control Panel > Recovery > Open System Restore and follow the prompts.

  • Mac: Use Time Machine to restore your system from a previous backup.

7. Seek Professional Help

If you're unable to resolve the issue on your own, it might be time to seek help from a professional technician.
